Land Rover CEO Dr. Ralf Speth said LANDWIND X7 SUV qualifies as theft of intellectual property and will approach the Chinese officials about the matter at the Guangzhou Auto Show.

"The fact that this type of copying is underway in China is very disappointing. The simple principle is that it is not something that should happen; Intellectual Property owned by Jaguar Land Rover and if you decide that IP then you violate international rules that apply throughout the world," Speth said Autocar magazine.

Executives said Land Rover has invested heavily in China with Chery joint venture partners and what has been done with LANDWIND X7 damage its business in China.

"I will speak with our officials and I will talk with our partners at Chery to find a way around this situation. I can not imagine the Chinese officials would love any action that damages the credibility of the state. What we see today is not true, "Speth added.

The LANDWIND X7 looks very similar to the Range Rover Evoque, Land Rover models that have just started to produce in China. While the Evoque at a price of around £ 40,000, with the X7 LANDWIND will go on sale later this month for just £ 14,000. Chinese lookalike powered by 188hp 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, mated to a six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic gearbox.

LANDWIND is a Chinese automobile manufacturer that was created as a joint venture between Changan Auto and Jiangling Motors Corporation.
