Volvo Develops Technology Wireless Charging for Electric Cars

Monday, November 4, 20130 comments

Volvo's research and development division has now completed the supporting technology for electric cars, the Swedish manufacturer providing innovative charging system for electric cars Volvo for the future.

As a result, the technology is capable of transferring energy through electromagnetic field which has been prepared for the future of high tech. According to the principal, the wireless inductive charging is way convenient, safe and effective for a transfer of energy.

Vice president of electric propulsion system Volvo Car Group, Lennart Stegland said, "Currently there is no common standard for the inductive charging. You still will continue our research and will evaluate the feasibility of the technology in hybrid and electric car projects we".

How does it work?
Nirkable charging process involves the induction coil in the base station to the vehicle. Coil creates an electromagnetic field on the BTS, whereas for the second coil on the vehicle functions to receive and convert it into electrical power that will be stored in the battery. In this case, Volvo has teamed up with Siemens to develop electric-drive powertrain. It is expected to set the bar for wireless charging.

So far, the principal has to test these innovations in the C30 prototype vehicles. From these results, it can generate power of 120 HP.

According to the test results, explaining that the Volvo C30 electric car is able to reach full capacity without using any cables, for it takes two to three hours.

Meanwhile, to conduct research on regular charging, Volvo embrace Inverto Company as their partner. Beyond that, Volvo is still not open to reveal a sound when it is fitting to incorporate wireless charging technology for the production vehicle.

In welcoming the year 2014, Volvo has started to assemble their latest variant of the Volvo V60 diesel plug-in hybrid with a production target of 6,000 units the year.
